Self-Filling Teabags: Ways to Cold Brew Tea – Part Two

Welcome to the second part of our mini series on ways to cold brew tea. A lot of people ask us this question. The process is very simple, although there are many ways to do it. The key is to find the right tools and methods for your situation. In this article, we take a closer look at using Self-Filling Teabags and how handy they are when you’re making cold brew tea at home.

What are Self-Filling Teabags?

They are made from unbleached, corn starch based PLA – which is biodegradable and can be added to your compost heap, or food waste bin. They are a great natural alternative to synthetic materials, as they are drawn from field-grown, sustainable resources. How to use Self Filling Teabags for Cold Brew

These empty teabags are wonderful for using with different sized teapots or vessels, from small to large. If you’re really stuck for space in the fridge, you can even add one to a cup instead of a teapot. Or even a bottle of water or your flask. Cold brew teas need between 1.5 and 2x the amount of tea stated on the recipe. We suggest starting with 1.5x and seeing how you like the taste.

So, if you’re using self filling teabags, simply figure out how much tea you need relative to water ratio, and how many bags you will need to use to get the perfect balance. It’s best not to overstuff the teabags so that the leaves have plenty of room to move about and infuse.

Serving Cold Brew Tea

To stop your tea from infusing further, remove the teabag/s from the water once your cold brew has reached the strength you prefer. Most cold brew teas take between 4 to 8 hours to reach a satisfying flavour profile, so figure out what is best for you. And that’s it!
